Fireflies or Lightning bugs, what do you know them as? Did you know that approximately 40 percent of 10,000 Americans surveyed said they call them both?
They are called Fireflies by 30.4 percent while 29.1 percent call them lightning bugs. North and central Alabamians are more likely to use lightning bug while south Alabama is more likely to use call them both. One of my favorite childhood memories is catching them in the evenings before bed. You know its Summer in the South when the Lightning bugs come out!
