More “Secret” History

The main lodge of The Secret was constructed in 1965 by M.G. Weaver who was the owner of Peoples Telephone Company. Upon completion he occupied it as his personal residence. He also owned a local park called Canyon Land Park which was a small amusement park. According to the previous owners, Jeff Cook told them that the group Alabama began playing their first concerts at this park. The main feature of the park was a chair lift that would take guests down into the canyon. Many of the tall support beams are still located in the canyon. It also featured wild and tamed animals as well as small carnival rides.
Today, Little River Canyon boasts an amazing horseshoe shaped waterfall as well as the Canyon River Center. The Center, which is a research facility for Jacksonville State University, shows an Imax style movie that highlights the natural features of the area.
In the winter one can enjoy clear views of all the rock formations in the canyon as well as water falls filled with water from winter rains.
